Glass Castle – By: Edeline Morisset

MY BIRTHDAY.

It’s one of my earliest memories. I was eight years old, and my family had just moved to a new house. I was sitting on my bed that had a pink furry blanket covering it. The walls were as white as snow, wearing the blue dress my big sister bought for me. My dress had white sunflowers on it. I was in my room all alone, while I heard my family laughing outside in the living room. Then I heard the bell ring 2x, making a beeping noise, but no one opened the door. I got up, making sure I didn’t fall because the bed was still too high for me. I opened the white door from my room, and the light hit me. My eyes were trying so hard not to close. I walked outside the hallway, and I saw my family watching a show on the TV, not even trying to ring the doorbell. I opened the doorbell, then unlocked the door. When the door opened, I saw my sister, who was holding a box of Dunkin’ Donuts. “Happy birthday!” She screamed. My family didn’t seem to hear it, or maybe they just didn’t care. I was so happy. I went to hug her, and I hugged her really tight. I held her hands as we walked to my room. We sat on my bed together. She opened the box, and it smelled so good. “THANK YOU!” I screamed in excitement. She bought three strawberry donuts and three chocolate ones. I picked the strawberry one. I took a bite, and it tasted so good. As I was happily eating my donut, I looked up and saw my sister not eating the donut.”Hey sis, why are you not eating?” I asked worriedly.

“It’s all for you, it’s your special day.” She said with a soft smile. Love looked down at the box of Dunkin’ Donuts, then I looked my eyes into my sister’s brown eyes that seemed to be glowing even in the dark. “Well, since it’s my birthday, I can say who I want to share these amazing donuts.” I paused, then continued. “Well, it’s your lucky day. I wish for you to share these donuts with me.” I smiled at her with all my teeth showing. I took the last of the strawberry donut and handed it to her because that was her favorite donut. “May your wish come true.” My sister said my sister said as she took the donut from my hands.

That day, we talked like there was no one else but us.

I came to cherish memories like those
