When I Look In The Mirror

By: Ava Kenneally

When I look in the mirror, I see me,
I search within for what defines my worth.
But when I look again, I think, who is she?

In my mind, I am a woman that brings glee
A radiant soul, with laughter filling the earth.
When I look in the mirror, I see me

She is a woman that is known by three
The girl whose beauty grows after birth
But when I look again, I think, who is she?

She fears that many may disagree
Is she just someone suffering from dearth?
When I look in the mirror, I see me

I see that who I am doesn’t matter to we
I’ve found my bubbling self-worth
When I look in the mirror, I see me,
But when I look again, I think, who is she?

“When I Look In The Mirror is a villanelle style poem that reflects my own thoughts sometimes based on how I feel, and it can probably be related to other girls or women, or just anyone that is struggling with their identity and their fears of the outside world and how people perceive them. But, in reality, we should just be ourselves without worrying about what others think.”
