Ambassadors

My whole life I have done many different hobbies. If you spun a wheel and said, “Have you done this? Have you done that?” I’ve probably done it. Some things from when I was younger include cheer, tennis, dance, theater, and baking classes– so much that I can’t even remember. I always had something to do and somewhere to be, but I didn’t hang out with people as much. However, things became weird after the pandemic.

When I moved to a new school it felt that I had nothing to do; nothing to join, and nothing that I felt good enough to do. So many people were pressured to do sports and whatnot, but there were none I was active enough to do. I felt jealous of all my friends saying, “Sorry, I have this, sorry, I have that.“ I just wanted to do something and be a part of something again. On the last day of school, I was sent an email which presented the best opportunity; it asked students to be ambassadors for our school. At first I wasn’t sure about it, but decided to fill out the form anyway. This one program helped me so much with every little thing that I couldn’t do. For example, I gave school tours over the summer and told visitors about my experience at the school. It helped me be more open to people about what I’ve been through and give people guidance that I wasn’t given due to covid.

It was so nice to help someone find their way somewhere, or show them things they have never seen before. I know the answers to questions that I didn’t know before. Being more confident with people I’ve never met before changed me and made me a better person this year.

I am so grateful for my school giving me this opportunity, and happy whenever I get a chance to do my little tasks and jobs.
